Casa Bonita Opens TODAY!

The long wait is finally over - The Casa Bonita restaurant is finally open!

My parents have been big fans of their Waukegan location - I've never tried it, but am looking forward to heading over to the Casa tonight once I get off the train!

I was thrilled to receive an e-mail from MainStreet Libertyville earlier this week with the news:

CASA BONITA, a classic old world Mexican cantina, opens its doors this Friday, July 24, for lunch and dinner, right on the corner of Lake Street and Milwaukee Avenue. They are a 20-year Waukegan icon, and we are absolutely thrilled to have them in downtown Libertyville. And we guarantee you will be too!All of their famous menu items have arrived intact. If you want fun, food, and a fine margarita, then you have found your Libertyville headquarters!

(My next question is: When does Tommy's open??????)

I am not sure what deal is with this place. It is overpriced, the service is glacial, and in two margaritas there were fruit flies. Fruit flies are a really bad sign. The shrimp was shell-on but was not described that way in the menu. The menu described the shrimp as "jumbo" but they were just small to medium shell- on -with- the- little- legs shrimp. The best part was the Mexican rice which truly was good. Other than that the food was weird spicy and unremarkable.

I have eaten at Casa Bonita on several occasions since they opened their doors in Libertyville less than 1 month ago. Despite a slow start, the service and food have consistently improved. The ambience both inside and out are without comparison in downtown Libertville. The owners are gracious, accomodating and hardworking. If you are looking for a solid meal, great drinks and a fantastic atmosphere, this is the place to go!

I've had a chance to eat dinner at Casa twice - the second time things definitely were running much smoother! I'm a fan of their food, but I really the like the atmosphere inside the restaurant, especially the bar. Also, the outdoor seating is pretty nice... what a great view down Milwaukee Ave! I drive by the restaurant everyday as I make my way home from the Metra stop, and just about everyday there seems to be a good crowd enjoying the outdoor seating - hopefully this keep up!

My husband and I have eaten at Casa Bonita several times. I have to say, with each experience, I am impressed with continual change and improvement. And it has only been a few weeks.

The margaritas are truly premiere with their fresh ingredients. My husband was appreciative they made his cocktail with fresh juice and he didn't have to ask. Everything we ordered, from the express lunch menu, to the shrimp appetizer to the salmon has been excellent. My husband ordered a tasty shredded pork dish. We will continue to try the extensive menu and test the service, as it probably differs from weekend to weekday to night.

I learned from restaurateur Joe Bartolotta in Milwaukee that it takes a restaurant about 6 months to iron out kinks. This was after I wrote a letter of disappointment with their high end Bacchus. Point is, he is right and the proof is in the pudding. Sometimes we have to be forgiving in allowing any entity to fix and grow. Just glad there is a new favorite aside from 545.

I have eaten at Casa Bonita several times now and each time has been absolutely delightful. The staff worked very hard to make sure that I had every thing I needed. The food was excellent each time, I have made a point to try something different and I came away each evening saying that this last dish was my new favorite. I am not a big margarita drinker however with the large number of different margaritas to choose from I had to try a few and they were great, fresh ,and not as all too often is the case, made from a pre mixed batch. Casa Bonita is a great addition to the main street experience and they have exceeded the high standards that I have come to expect from Libertyville.

It's been a month since we've opened! A big thank you to all Casa Bonita (Libertyville) customers. On the eve of Thursday, July 23, 2009 we opened our doors to a few familiar faces for a trial run.

While grateful, word traveled VERY fast and by noon the very next day, there was a line of customers waiting outside our door to get a taste of Casa Bonita Libertyville. We were so surprised and delighted to meet our new customers (especially since our advertisement was primarily based on word of mouth and a couple Now Open signs)!

While we regretfully admit to some "opening kinks" in the first couple weeks, we are happy to announce, we are now well underway and operating effectively, efficiently and strive to create an exceptional dining experience for every guest.

Our goal is for every guest to have a pleasurable dining experience anything less is unacceptable to us.

While we cannot promise you a "no wait to be seated" status....we can promise your experience with Casa Bonita will be worth the wait. Please come, relax, enjoy the atmosphere and indulge in one of our premium signature cocktails.

Our success this first month has been amazing and it's due to several new and repeat customers! Casa Bonita would like to thank their guests for their patronage (and patience) during our first month of opening. We are so grateful to be apart of such a wonderful community. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Last week my husband and I went to Casa Bonita. The atmosphere is wonderful, very beautiful with the hand painted wall murals. There is even a donkey (statue)in the corner. The food was fantastic as was the service. My magarita was made with the top of the line ingredients. Patio seating even had heaters that could be individually controlled. We well certainly be back over and over again.

I admit that I am a bit of a mojito snob. If the mojito is not perfect, I can't bring myself to drink it. Casa Bonito does a very nice job with their mojitos.
