HIT & RUN UPDATE - Police Still Looking For Driver

There isn't any real update to the investigation into this weekend's hit-and-run death of a 26-year-old Libertyville Township man. Lake County Sheriff's investigators reportedly were out this morning talking to motorists who may have seen anything unusual early yesterday morning along Route 137, near River Road. There is no word yet from the Sheriff's office if any new information came of their early morning patrol.

The Daily Herald, Chicago Tribune and Waukegan News-Sun all have updated stories on their websites.

Detectives are still asking for your help in locating the vehicle that may have been involved in this accident. If you have any information that my be relevant to this investigation, you're asked to call the Lake County Sheriff's Office at 847-549-5200.

ROADWORK ALERT! Route 137 over the Des Plaines River

There is a roadwork project set to begin Monday on Route 137 that could really make things a mess during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Traffic will be down to a single lane in either direction over the Des Plaines River, East of Milwaukee Avenue.

The Waukegan News Sun spells out the details in their story HERE in today's paper.

Also, if you're a traffic geek like me (well.... it is what pays my bills) HERE is a great website that is run by the Lake County Department of Transportation that offers views of the cameras over various intersections across Lake County.

Bill Kurtis in Libertyville on Saturday

I was out at Sunset Foods last night and noticed a sign promoting an appearance this Saturday (tomorrow) by legendary news guy and TV & movie star - Bill Kurtis! (This would be a great event to stop off at before or after the Mainstreet Historic House Walk!)

Bill is scheduled to make an appearance at Sunset Foods between 11a-12:30PM, promoting his Tallgrass Beef Company. I had a chance to meet Bill a few years ago when he hosted an event for the Liberty Prairie Conservancy at his home in Mettawa. He's an outstanding guy - and this is a chance to learn about his beef company.... and maybe try some too! (I hear it's really good).

New Libertyville Township Supervisor

Tonight is set to be outgoing Libertyville Township Supervisor Betty Ann Moore's last meeting following her decision last fall not to run for re-election this spring. Moore will turn over duties of Township Supervisor to current Township Trustee Kathleen O'Connor. O'Connor ran unopposed in the Spring election.

Moore also serves as the Democrat's precinct committeeman in Precinct 180. (I serve as the Republican committeeman for the same area - http://www.libertyville180.org/) She also is on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Toll Authority - serving as an appointed member by former Governor, and future TV star, Rod R. Blagojevich.

I wish the township elections would have had more interest. The only contested race was for Township Highway Commissioner - Current Township Highway Commissioner has an outstanding track record of leadership and financial responsibility, and was the person least needing a challenge. The members of the Township Board needed to be in the spotlight for approving Supervisor Moore's desires for massive pay increases for several elected officials, including the position of Township Supervisor. The board passed the increases with very little serious discussion or interest. The Libertyville Township government is in dire need of oversight - the township meetings are rarely attended, with almost no interest by the media. It would be a great move on the Township Board's part to broadcast the meetings through Comcast, or least YouTube. I look to incoming newbie to the board, Trustee-elect Rick Mittelman (who ran unsuccessfully for Township Supervisor four years ago) to bring some fresh ideas and a more challenging and aggressive attitude to the board.

There is a story HERE in today's Daily Herald.
